Awkward & Awesome Thursdays!

Sydney over at The Daybook is so funny and came up with a great idea!

Sydney graciously hosts "Awkward & Awesome" Thursdays each week on her blog, where she posts her awkward and awesome moments.  If you want to participate, make sure you grab one of these styling Sydney badges, and link back over on her website!!  We heard about it through another lovely blog Statements in Fashion.

Awkward

1) Dealing with intimate personal details of other people's lives as a part of your job!

2) Being a bag lady.  I don't know why, but I carry so many bags!  I always have a huge purse, now I have my camera bag with several lenses in it.  I often have a gym bag or lunch with me too!  I must look so odd walking into my office building.

3) My client telling me that I must settle his lawsuit!  His wife apparently hasn't slept with him since the lawsuit started.  He will be lucky if they are only separated rather than divorced by the end of it.  So sad.

Awesome
1) Grandparents coming to town! Apparently my grandparents have some birthday present for me that they think I can enjoy on my trip with Hubbs next week to California!  So they are coming tomorrow!

2) Traveling to California next week! I hope that it's warm!

3) My first deposition!  Yes, it's a bit sad that I have been out 1.5 years and am just now doing a deposition.  I had the opportunity to second-char a trial.  That was awesome.  So this is a bit of a step back.  But, an exciting step back all the same.

I will update this with some of my outfits lately later tonight!

Let Me Hear You Roar

Okay so my hair was MUCH cuter than it looks in these pics. It was misbehaving that day and so I decided to put it into high pigtail knots. This is one of my favourite dresses. I love the print, colours and it is so comfortable yet flattering!
In this outfit I am wearing a red & black leopard print dress from Oasis, leggings from Topshop and flats from Dunnes. You can't really see it but I'm wearing a crystal heart necklace that is also from Oasis. Tomorrow I have the day off. I'm having lunch with my old practice teacher from my MSW course and then heading into town to meet my friends, Michelle & Michael, for coffee. Friday it's back to work. Job is still going very well...but I'm looking forward to the weekend!

BCBG

BCBG suits are my favorite.  I wish I had more of them!  I had a court appearance on Monday, so I rocked my BCBG suit with my Ann Taylor Blouse with the polka dot flower embellishment.  For accessories I wore my Tiffany Silver Balls necklace and Silver Ball studs. I apologize for the short post.  Alas, things are quite busy at work.  Which is a good thing.  I love to be busy.  On Thursday I get to take my first deposition ever!  Wish me luck!

Music Monday

Okay soo I am cheating a bit today and not posting an outfit. Instead, I am posting up a link to the Urban Outfitters blog where every Monday they have 5 free songs to download. Some of the songs are a bit too "out there" for my taste but I like most of them and they make me want to be roaming around an UO store in search of something quirky to purchase. Enjoy! ♥

Fashion on Game Day

I also enjoy jeans just as Shea does. I was inspired to be a bit more fashionable for game day on Friday.  The University of Kansas "KU" Jayhawks were playing in the Sweet Sixteen and we went out to a bar to watch the action.  That game against the Richmond "Spiders" (what a nasty mascot!) went well.  Alas, the Jayhawks did not prevail in the game last night against Virginia Commonwealth.  Why does KU always lose to schools I have never heard of?!

I wore a Banana Republic Blazer, Red Nine West Pumps my KU Jersey and Mossimo Jeans.

The necklace with the large silver ball was from Forever 21 I believe.  Is it cheesy to wear a necklace with a basketball-esque shape....some might say yes.  I say...I LOVE CELEBRATIONS of any kind.  So celebrate I do.

My watch is Michael Kors via ebay.

Blue Jean Baby

So as a self-confessed dressaholic you might be surprised to learn I actually own quite a few pairs of jeans. I own FAR more dresses, to be clear, but I can't deny the comfort and style of a good pair of denims. Here are a couple outfits I've worn this week all purely for comfort!
On the left I am wearing a top and jeans from Charlotte Russe, necklace from Topshop and flats from Dunnes. On the right I am wearing a top from Kieu's in Lawrence, cardigan from Penneys, jeans from Topshop, necklace from Dorothy Perkins and flats from Dunnes.
Here is pic of the back of my hair from the pic on the right. I did it almost the same exact way in the left one but didn't take a pic of it that day. I followed Linley's tutorial from Dwelling & Telling for the knotted bun updo. I found that since my hair is so long, I was able to do 3 knots (and probably could have done one more) and just using normal bobby pins wasn't enough to hold it all up...hence the green clip I have in. The style didn't last all day unfortunately. I will need to invest in a more heavy duty metal clip I think if I'm going to get my hair to stay up but I liked how simple it was to do. Definitely a new style for the book! Thanks Ang for posting it first and thanks, Linley, for the wonderful tutorial! :D

Fabulous Friday

Once again, it is time to play "Give it a Miss, Give it a Go or Give it to Me" where I'll post pics of celeb outfits and you can tell me whether you wouldn't wear it (give it a miss), like it and might wear it (give it a go) or love it and want it (give it to me).

Here is this week's contender...Leighton Meester. All pics taken from GoFugYourself and you should check out that site too...very funny and witty stuff!
Hm...so what do you think? ♥

Awkward & Awesome Thursdays

Sydney from The Daybook started Awkward and Awesome Thursdays.  We recently started doing this, and I think it's quite fun.  If you would like to get linked up for Awkward & Awesome Thursdays visit The Daybook and leave your link and grab a badge!

Awkward
1) When you've just finished having a good bitch session about someone and then realise that they probably heard everything you said
2) Trying to decide if I can go without shoes on April 4th! Tom's One Day Without Shoes is coming up on April 4th.  I'm not sure how the judge would feel about my not wearing shoes in the courtroom ; (.
3) Organizing our garage last weekend we had to move all of our stuff outside.  TWO people came buy and offered to buy various items.  Apparently our organizing looked like a garage sale!
4) I was talking to a colleague about his travels. When asked what he does in the evenings for fun, he responded that he looks around stores, browses book stores and watches porn.  Nice.  Thanks for sharing.

Awesome!
1) Realising it is a lot warmer outside than you thought it was!

2) New ways to make grilled cheese!  With this method you put bread in the oven with cheese on top.  You can put a slice of tomato and turkey under the cheese for extra protein and veggies!

3) It's almost the weekend!

What I've Been Wearing Lately

This is a green Antonio Melanie dress with a Merona Yellow cardigan and Milly snake print flats from Scarpasa.  I decided to wear the green belt that goes with the dress on the outside of the cardigan to better define the waist.  For acessories I wore my Michael Kors watch and glass bead earrings from Shea Babe's etsy store!

This is a Spense dress from Dillard's, pink Rampage cardigan and my large Flintstones style pearl's from H & M.  I got to attend a KMUW "Music Tasting" about the Wichita Jazz Festival.  Apparently it has been going on since the 1970's.

These are a few of the ones I wouldn't mind owning! Thanks for the giveaway, girls! :D

First Attempt at the Knot Bun

Linley from Dwelling and Telling did a fab tutorial on the knot bun not long ago.  I knew I had to give it a try! I let my hair air dry last night.  Big mistake!  I'll work on more volume the next time I try it.

I'm really wanting short hair again.  I need to enjoy my long hair by trying new things!  I LOVE Elissa's short hair from Dress with Courage.  However, I do not think I look awesome with short hair.

I'm wearing Scarpasa flats, J. Crew beads, pearl earrings from my Hubby, dress from Dillard's, and a J. Crew brown cardigan.  I love the little bee shaped buttons on this cardigan.

Thrown Together

Sort of a "blah" day today...this outfit is a bit uninspiring but I woke up a bit late this morning and had to rush to get ready for work. I'm wearing a dress (if you can call it that...a bit too short really without the leggings to be classed as a dress I think!) from Swamp--a shop that up until recently I thought had really cheap looking tacky clothes...they must have a new buyer now. I've purchased several things in the past few months, none of which are cheap looking or tacky! I added the black tiered cardi from Penneys and black calf-length leggings from Dunnes. The boots are Penneys also. I tried to take a page from Ang's book and do a different pose but not very successful this time around...there's always next time!

Hope you enjoy your Tuesday! :D

Mellow Yellow

On Friday I wore a yellow shirt dress from Forever 21.  It was still a bit chilly that day so I wore it with brown leggings and brown riding boots from Etienne Aigner.  For accessories I wore my gold leaf necklace and brass earrings from Target.  I'm in a bit of a rut with these accessories! I just love them too much.

Friday was a great day!  Things are busy at the office.  I am working on a few contested estate cases.  I never expected to do those kind of cases.  However, I enjoy litigation.  And contested estates involve a lot of pleadings and court appearances.

After work my Aunt Ceci came to town!  We went to my church for a St. Patty's day shindig.  Don't worry, I put on some green earrings and a green jacket so no one would pinch me!  My Aunt had enough spirit for both of us!

They also had these great Irish toasts on place cards at the tables.  I thought this one was pretty funny.

Green with Envy

I just love the bright colour of this dress! It makes me instantly happy. It was a great find from H&M along with the bold statement necklace I accessorised with. The black cardigan is from Penneys and the leggings are Next. My wedge boots finished it off (again). Excuse the grumpy face...I hadn't had my coffee yet!! On this day I played indoor bowling with the senior members of the club and earned the nickname "Six" which I think is very cute. I am totally loving this job so far!! :D

Stay classy, fashionistas! ♥

Day of Silence

Although we are a bit late in posting this up, it is never too late to donate to a worthy cause. For Japan with Love is certainly one. All donations made will go towards providing Shelterboxes to people in Japan that contain lifesaving supplies for survival. Anything you can do to help those in need will be greatly appreciated. Every little helps!

Happy St. Patty's Day! + Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Sydney from The Daybook started Awkward and Awesome Thursdays.  We recently started doing this, and I think it's quite fun.  If you would like to get linked up for Awkward & Awesome Thursdays visit The Daybook and leave your link and grab a badge!

Awesome

1) Celebrating St. Patty's Day!  I'm not a huge beer fan, but any celebration of Irishness is lovely.  My grandma was born on St. Patrick's Day so I pray for her soul on St. Patrick's Day.  Also, Shea lives in Ireland! So I'm sure she's having an awesome time today.
2) Snickers Cupcakes.  I decided to make some for my work peeps today.  They are devil's food cake + bite size snickers on the inside.  Obviously I added green sprinkles for St. Patty's Day!

3) The warm sunshine.  I enjoyed some relaxing time on our back patio last night.  It as lovely to feel the warm wind blowing on my bare legs!

Awkward
1) Having to make important calls on my own!  We have a large client at our firm.  My boss trusted me to get a letter out to a county zoning admin for this big company (our client).  The letter was fairly simple, but as I got into it I realized there was a bit of a snag! I decided to stick with my boss's conclusion and ask him about the issue this morning.  Turns out it was the right call.  Yay for not getting too creative!
2) Old guys that stare at me.  Anyone that stares at me for that matter.  In my spinning (cycling) class there is an older guy that is pretty nice.  But today he was staring at me the WHOLE time.  Lame.  Maybe I looked odd for some reason.
3) When people walk by as I am taking pictures.  I am pretty good about acting like I'm cool.  I try to make eye contact and then keep going. But, I always end up rushing through the shots after the interruption.

Have a lovely St. Patty's Day!

Outfits lately

After my weekend of traveling to Garden City, KS then across the state to Kansas City, Kansas I was exhausted.  So Monday was a glasses day.  I wore a Gap striped button down under a pink J. Crew sweater.  The pants are Victoria's Secret straight leg.  The shoes are Nurture.

On Wednesday I wore my plaid dress from Century 21 in Long Island, NY.  Century 21 has a lot of great deals on designer stuff.  It was still a bit cold yesterday so I did some layering.  I wore the dress with my black Express turtleneck, Calvin Klein tights and red Nine West Shoes.  For accessories I wore the pearls my grandma had made for me.

For St. Patty's Day I tried to work in a bit of green with my jacket and accessories.  I wore a Jones NY jacket with a dark brown Antonio Melani dress.  I love the cowl neck of this dress.  I can't bring myself to wear a necklace with it for fear of distracting from the lovely neckline! My shoes are a recent purchase from Scarpasa.  They were on sale!  You can still purchase this exact style here.

Scarpasa has been running some great deals lately.  Right now you can get 30% off because they have been open one year.  They also have a new lovely style on sale for $49 that I may be purchasing!

Buffalo Tracking

Over the weekend I visited a friend in Garden City, Kansas.  When I looked up things to do in Garden City I noticed an entry for a wildlife preserve that boasts a herd of buffalo!  I decided that I must visit. So, we did some buffalo tracking.  For a more detailed account of my trip with pictures you can check out my photography blog Angela's Lavani.  I took these pictures of my buffalo tracking outfit out on the range!

I wore my trusty cowboy boots.  These were thrifted from Wildman Vintage in Lawrence, KS.  The shirt is Columbia Sportswear from Dillards.  The jeans are Mossimo from Target.  For accessories I wore my golden leaf necklace and bronze earrings from Target.

B-I-N-G-O!

I decided to take a snap of my outfit inside today. I was in a bit of a hurry to get to work so the messy apartment will have to do for a backdrop. Yes, I started my new job today!! The title of this post refers to what I got to spend my afternoon doing with the members of the club. Super fun!

For my first day I chose to wear this abstract art dress from Dorothy Perkins. The shape is unusual and I like how it fits. I wore footless tights underneath but since it was a bit chilly this morning I ended up wearing my Penneys boots instead of the heels I was planning on. Also finished off the look with a green boyfriend cardigan from Dorothy Perkins and a big sparkly necklace also from DP. Happy with the way this outfit came together! :D
